India’s 4G revolution: mobile communications for all

India is “more” in many ways: more people, more colors, more vibrancy, and more contrasts. The market is extremely diverse, which makes the UX/UI design for the Jio brand launch in India particularly exciting. In Mumbai, an international team worked on a fascinating project to make the 4G mobile network accessible to everyone in India. We focused on the UX/UI design and app development for Jio to create a user-friendly digital experience.

My team and I were responsible for developing the mobile apps, including the branding and digital experience of the LYF smartphone series.

The project was created in collaboration with iconmobile, functional aesthetics and Jio.

MY TASKS
UX DESIGN UI DESIGN BRANDING
UX DESIGN

faster to your destination

Our task included designing the user experience in the Jio Store and developing the Jio apps. A central component was creating a customer journey that focused on the needs of sellers, customers, and managers. As concluding a mobile phone contract in India is very different from concluding a contract in Europe, it was important to become active as a local customer.

In India, you often have to wait a long time even to buy a SIM card. In addition, the government requires numerous documents to conclude a mobile phone contract.
Our main task was to simplify, digitize and significantly speed up this process for everyone.

UI DESIGN

Everything must become much more colorful

India is not Europe. While design in Germany has become increasingly minimalist, India is the complete opposite. The design world is characterized by bold colors, plenty of contrasts, and a touch of gold – almost Bollywood-style. This aesthetic posed a particular challenge in UI design: How much color is too much to allow the user to navigate the digital experience clearly and intuitively? The UX/UI design for the Jio brand launch in India had to overcome these challenges.

Together with the lead design team, we developed a consistent design language that applied to the entire Jio experience, combining the cultural context with clear user guidance.

BRANDING

DEVELOP A NEW BRAND IN TWELVE HOURS? THIS ONLY EXISTS IN INDIA.

Along the way (!!!), we also developed the device brand LYF, which was launched simultaneously with Jio. In the first phase, LYF mainly focused on smartphones equipped with the Jio Experience. Our tasks included developing the brand image, the digital presence, and the design of the onboarding experience.
